    chewing/destruction

We have a 6 year old female Weimaraner who has been "breaking into" our bedroom closet on a daily basis, stealing my husbands pants/shirts and chewing off zippers and buttons. We have gated the closet and she continues to push down the gates and paw the closet until it opens. We are at wits end and don't know what to do. A little background info.... we also have two young children, we both work and unfortunately the dog doesn't get the exercise she got when she was our only baby.  I know this could be a major reason for the destructive behavior, but how do we work with her given our limitations?

I know this is not getting at the main problem, but is your dog crate trained at all?  Some people like to think that crating a dog is not a nice thing to do, but I have no problem putting my two dogs in their crate while I'm gone for the day...they don't mind it at all.

For the closet, I would suggest changing the door on the closet to one that you can put a sliding lock on that is placed too high for her.  Weimaraners do need a good deal of exercise.  I would suggest hiring someone to give your dog a 1/2 hour-1 hour long walk everyday during the week.  Maybe there is a neighbor kid that you can trust and you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for.  They have packs that you can put on your dog to hold water that will give some extra weight to wear her out more.  With the amount of money that you are paying to replace your husband's clothing, it should be worth it.
